Position: Estimator
Location: 1 Seafield Way, Edinburgh, Leith
Department: Estimating Team
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Steel Estimator to join our team. The candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for steel manufacturing and fabrication projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, technical knowledge of steel products, and the ability to work closely with sales, production, and project management teams.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Proven experience in estimating within a steel manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Strong understanding of structural steel, sheet metal, or related steel products
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
- Qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Experience with CAD software or ERP systems
- Knowledge of industry standards and steel pricing trends
Responsibilities
As an estimator, your responsibilities will include:
- Review drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to prepare accurate cost estimates
- Calculate material, labour, equipment, and overhead costs for steel manufacturing projects
- Prepare and submit quotations and tender documents within required deadlines
- Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing
- Assess project risks and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Maintain and update pricing databases and estimation tools
- Support the sales team with technical and pricing information
- Participate in post-project reviews to improve future estimating accuracy
