Blakes have been instructed by our long-standing customers Underbelly to produce a mobile bar/events facility out of converted storage containers. The project involves converting eight shipping containers into a 2560sqft venue with outdoor balcony capable of hosting and supporting a variety of Underbelly events around the country.
The operational benefits of the project are that the venue can be easily assembled and dismantled with each unit simply craned onto a truck for transport to the next event. The containers will be able to be reconfigured for specific site/event requirements.
Underbelly is one of the UK’s leading events organizers with 7 festivals, 250 shows, over 1 million tickets and 5 million visitors in 2014.
The project represents a joint venture between two of our divisions, with the Tank Department utilising their experience of converting storage containers and Fabrication manufacturing and installing the staircases balconies and balustrades.
The first event that the venue will be operated will be George Square at this year’s Edinburgh Festivals. We will update you on Underbelly and Blake’s contribution to this year’s festivals in next month’s Metal Centre. For more information on Underbelly and the Festivals, go to www.underbelly.co.uk
Underbelly Production Manager Kenny Easson explained “Having worked with Blakes at various events over the years, they always deliver the goods. This relationship can be crucial to the success of an event as often timescales are tight with changing requirements up to and beyond the eleventh hour! At Underbelly we are looking forward to this year’s Festivals and many more with the support of Blakes!”
More information on the conversion of containers for a variety of uses can be found within the Storage Tank section of our website.
