CE Marking of structural steelwork is a declaration that our products meet necessary public safety requirements.
The public safety requirements are a set of essential characteristics that each product must satisfy and these characteristics are given in the product’s harmonised standard.
CE Marking of construction products was introduced in the Construction Products Directive (CPD) in 1988. In the UK the CPD was enforced by the Construction Products Regulations 1991 (CPR) which described the two tests for compliance with the CPD. The first was CE Marking and the second was supplying, when asked, Trading Standards Officers all the information required on the product to enable the authorities to satisfy themselves that the product complies with the regulations and the requirements of the CPD.
Since 1st July 2013, the CPR made CE Marking mandatory in the UK and Republic of Ireland, for all construction products that are permanently incorporated in to a building or civil engineering works and are covered by either a harmonised standard or European Technical Assessment.
On 1st July 2014, CE Marking became enacted on all structural steelwork for construction and civil engineering.
The Scope of works covered by the harmonised standard (EN1090-1) has been detailed by the British Standards Institute (BSI.) A copy of BSI’s Scope is attached here (PLEASE HOVER AND CLICK HERE).
